Resident Evil: Degeneration
This movie was a mixed bag. The story was very sub-par, but when you compare it to other Resident Evil stories, it fits right in. It's more enjoyable if you're a fan of the whole world that was created in the games.
The animation was also mixed. There were some scenes that were rendered beautifully, and others that you had to really stretch your imagination. The animation is basically the same looking as the cut scenes in Resident Evil 5 (not quite up to par with RE5, but close), which is why I always felt like I was watching a cut scene inside a game. I kept waiting for the movie to fade out and for me to take control of the player. And that's not a bad thing, I suppose. It's just a weird thing. But, as I said, a few scenes are just awkward looking. The lip syncing is also very weird, and I don't remember a single scene where I thought "Oh yeah, that animated character actually said that line".
The voice actors were decent enough though. The little girl actor was unbearable, but Leon and Clair both had pretty decent voice actors (Leon's voice was the same actor from Resident Evil 4). Everyone else wasn't of the highest quart, but certainly not bad. I wish there was an option to listen to the Japanese cast, but oh well.
As for the good stuff, the fighting is very high quality, the explosions looked nice, and all around the action scenes were very well done. The second to last scene in the movie is certainly a sight to behold.
Good job Capcom, but as for video games rendered into movie form using CG, Square has you beat. Still, worth a watch for fans of the series.
(just a note, I almost typed "This game" instead of "This movie" more than once).
