I can't believe this doesn't already have a topic...

Okay well, feel free to discuss anything MW2 here, but also, SIGN THIS PETITION! Even if you'll NEVER play the game, SIGN IT! SIIIIIGGGNNN IIIIIIT!

What are you signing for? Well Infinity Ward (Developers of CoD:MW2), in a rare act of stupidity, has decided to revoke support for dedicated servers from their upcoming PC release, Modern Warfare 2. What does that mean to you and me? That means that the PC version of MW2 will be devolved into the horrid matchmaking systems that consoles use. No personal servers for people, no community mods/maps/etc, no innovation of any kind. Just a blind matchmaking scheme and the ability to join your friends in a match.

For a PC game, specifically one whose only purpose is multiplayer, especially on the KING of multiplayer devices (the PC), it means death and general avoidance.

As you can see, the petition already has over 100,000 unique signatures, and that petition is hardly a day old. ONE day. That is a gigantic slice of the Modern Warfare/PC community.

Anyhoo. Feel free to carry on MW2 discussion! (And Post below if you signed so we can give you a virtual cookie for supporting Net Neutrality community development.)

Maybe should... nah.

I am going to get flamed for this, but I wasn't much for the original CoD4. The multiplayer was fun enough, but I didn't even enjoy the single player missions at all. Therefore, I'll play it when it gets cheap or when a friend buys it.

So apparently CoD4:MW2 is going to be in third personas well as first person.

Have you heard about the controversy about civillian killings by terrorists? It's on slashdot headlines. Will my radeon HD 4770 be able to handle this game?

Another reason that the multiplayer will be crud.

I enjoyed CoD4's multiplayer, and it would be the only reason that I would buy the new one. But it seems that they just enjoy stabbing it over and over again.

...I'm confused as to why this affects your decision to get the game. You wouldn't be getting the PC version anyway would you? Nothing has changed for the consoles.

But we are in the PC Thread and he posted a link to an article about the PC version, with an article on a roundtable discussion between the developers and gamers describing how dumb this game is getting. Are you asking why he cares? Or is it that he is empathizing us who were going to buy this game, the 186,000 voices screaming in the darkness. Stop settling for -crud- Infinity Ward...

Well, I played CoD4 on the PC, so if I was going to get CoD:MW2, it would be on the PC, but now I just don't want it at all. It seems that Infinity Ward is just trying to screw up the game.

Seems D2D and every other DD service aside from Steam is boycotting MW2.

Yeah, Steamworks is an evil, intrusive program that should never be thrust upon consumers! That's just wrong!

*adds several dozen more games with SecuROM into library*

While I like Steam and don't think it's a bad thing for games to use it, I can see where they're coming from. I hated Steam the first times I used it, and it totally felt like I had wasted my money on a game that didn't work.

It's amazing. Just don't worry about those two sticks in the mud and you'll enjoy yourself with it :)

Already signed. Probably won't ever get it if it doesn't come out on Steam.

I laughed really hard at that.

No offense to the people here (Traith, I guess?) who seem to really care about the issues here, but I really don't see the big deal about no dedicated server support. Losing mods is an understandable loss I guess, but even then... Even John Carmack has said that Rage probably won't support dedicated servers either. It's old technology. I say it's time to move on.

That said, I'm playing the game on the console anyway, so this obviously doesn't affect me as much...

Because no dedicated server means that the hosting is brought upon people's ISP's and their connection speed which most of the time is fine; however, a lot of times it gets really annoying when there is a slight bit of lag, or a lot of lag, and then a connection reset is inevitable. The nice thing is host migration, but even then sometimes it fails. Also, capping it at 18 is a little lacking of what the PC can do, as shown with past iterations and other similar games. And finally, $60 dollars is a joke for a PC game, especially when its a port of the console version and nothing more except activation with steam. Basically IW sold us out for junk, and while it's a really fun game, they are just going to continually mess us over...

The review on Ars Technica pretty much sums it up.

I'm gonna pick it up today when I go into town. I'm thinking between that and Dragon Age Origins, I'll be quite busy.

Oh my... This isn't good. Once again, Activision kills a brand. They just finished killing Guitar Hero and regretted it, now they're killing Call of Duty.
