Gamebrink has the first review of Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn. 75/100. That's not a very good score from Gamebrink, whose editors gleefully give out 90's all the time. But their major problem is that it's too similar to the Gamecube Fire Emblem, and I liked Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance so much that I don't mind this sequel sticking so closely to the formula. In fact...

If you're into the story aspect of this series then Goddess of Dawn will not disappoint. In yet another example of how this was supposed to be a GC sequel, the story is directly connected with the Cube version and enhances it in many ways. If you want to get the most out of this one when it hits your region you're going to want to play through the GC version and have that save inserted into your Wii when you start up this one. You'll get a bunch of neat bonuses that you wouldn't get otherwise.

Considering how much I liked Path of Radiance's storyline, I can't wait for this to come out in English! Maybe the identity of the Black Knight will finally be revealed!

I pre-ordered Jeanne D'arc today. I like the concept of mixing history with fantasy, and since I just recently finished the excellent Dragon Quest VIII I was attracted to this game simply because of the name "Factor 5". ;)

I think you mean Level 5. Factor 5 is team behind Lair. I know, they're both 5s, it gets confusing for me too.

Did you get the demo with it boyward? I pre-ordered Jeanne D'arc for the demo, and I thought it was pretty good. It looks like they might even keep the religious references! ("Can the maiden ordained by God save France?" or something like that was said in a blurb in the game).

Edit: Never mind, you got it online :) Basically the demo has two levels one where a town is being burned down by the English (they have orcs too, which was odd at first). They second is a generic map with more player units (including La Hire).

In the game Jeanne (among others) has a magic armlet which allows her to transform into different forms. Each form gives them a new ability as well as the power "Godspeed" which allows her to act again every time they slay the enemy. It looks like in the game there are 5 magics armlets given to different characters (five heroes sealed the demon lord long ago with their five armlets.....)

They also developed Rogue Galaxy, which has proved to be very excellent thus far.

EDIT: I just looked up Jeanne D'Arc because I'd never heard of it. It looks like I might be making a PSP purchase after all. IGN gave it a 9.

That's great. I didn't think I was going to be getting anything for my PSP until God of War: Chains of Olympus

I agree completely. I got way into the Fire Emblem series after playing Path of Radiance, so I'm extremely excited for Goddess of Dawn.

Well I picked up Saiyuki again. It had been on the backburner for almost a year now.

Great game. Plays out a lot like the original Final Fantasy Tactics, I really like the fact that as of right now I'm limited to five characters, ranks up the challenge to a nice level. The various monster modes for four of the characters are also quite a bit of fun to use.

Also the story is great, it's yet another retelling of ''The Journey West'' which is a very good, very complex Buddhist fable that's very popular all over the East Asian world. The way it's done though is nice and the characters are great.

Only gripe is the music. It's not terrible, but it's not buy the soundtrack worthy either.

Over all though it's a very good game. I paid about $20 for it a year back. Not sure how much it goes for now.

EDIT: Looks like it goes for around $25 on Ebay. Not bad for one of those lesser known gems of gaming.

I should play Saiyuki, but it's on the bottom of my priority list right now. About how long would you say this game is, Kite? Since you haven't finished it, could you tell me how many hours you've played so far, and whether you see yourself approaching the end of the storyline anytime soon?

I got mine for $7.99 + shipping off of Amazon Marketplace. I'm not bragging, but I do recall seeing it for cheap here and there, so if anybody is wanting Saiyuki it pays to wait for the right price to come along.

I'm only around two hours in. Not even close to India yet, not to mention all the little side journeys I'll end up going on.

If it follows the book that is.

So quite some time yet.

I'm going to guess 20-40 hours, but I would have to find my old saved game to find out the exact number. Its not a 50+ hour game however.

I've seen that Jeanne D'Arc game around the local gamestop, I might pre-order it aswell, the game appeals to me becuase of its turn-based squad combat ala Shining Force and Fire Emblem. And I like the alternate history setting it has.

Fire Emblem Doesn't Only Get New Name
Localization tweaks are fascinating. Take Wii title Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn, which was released in Japan this past February. When it gets a North American release this November, the game will be retitled Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. No surprises there! Nintendo had previously announced that it was not going to use Goddess of Dawn in the title, begging the question why? The good news is that the game is getting 16:9 support — something the Japanese version doesn't have.

Kind of cool for the widescreen support. Not so much for the name change as I'm never a fan of name changes over localization.

They are also adding in mid battle perma-save, a first (at least as far as I know) in Fire Emblem. I hope you can turn this feature off, takes out the challenge.

I would think it's to have continuity between this sequel and its Gamecube predecessor: Path of Radiance. Radiant Dawn... Path of Radiance. Just a hunch.

I'm stuck on chapter 19 of Ryusei's path in SRT:OG. I can't seem to find a way to beat Valsion or Shu Shirakawa. Those blasted energy fields just take too long to get rid of.

Any suggestions?

Just forget about Shu if you want, you don't have to kill him, I don't think he drops anything unique. This is the last mission you fight him however.

You need to use energy drain weapons on the Mechs before you attack, than have the rest of your squad pound on him once all his energy is drained. It might take a couple turns to drain all of it, and he regains some each turn.

I remember it took me a couple tries to beat that map. Its one of the hardest missions in the game.
