Okay, post stuff you ate today. Try to specify what meal it was too.

For lunch today, I had a 2-layer Swiss cheese and Salami sandwich, and then a normal-size Swiss cheese and roast beef sandwich.

So, posts away!

Breakfast: Corn flakes
Lunch: Lasagna.

So it was you who made that first thread!

I (suprisingly) haven't snacked on anything since lunchtime, though all the gator/power-ade seems to dampen one's hunger.

This thread reminds me of what I posted last time... I miss Swiss food...

Breakfast: Plain yoghurt, granola, honey, and dragon well tea (which is much nicer in summer than the standard black tea with milk). Also -- when we run out of honey, I like to use quince jam to mix with the yoghurt, it's very good too.

Lunch: Greek Olive hummus, whole wheat pita, four spanish olives, a slice of Brie, and an apple

Dinner: Pot stickers and a Bounty, fresh from Australia, so it was still really soft and good and all that
Jadyn
Update: Had a double quarter-pounder w/cheese and fries at about 12:45am central.
Evili
Nothing for breakfast (I never eat anything in the morning)

I had my first experience with Sushi. Quite enjoyable, actually. Unfortunately, now I want more. But I have no money.

Just had 1 1/2 pop tarts.

Sorry, evileye. That doesn't sound too well.

Fortunately, my school cafeteria serves almost-satisfying food. Today we had barbecue sandwiches with a half-baked cookie. smile.gif

Guys, seriously... if you're eating cafeteria swill, cook your own food. It's easier and cheaper, and WAY better.

Not everybody has the time to whip out a homecooked meal, and some simply don't want to learn to cook. I'll agree on the ridiculous prices of cafeteria food, though.

I'm not saying you have to start from scratch... but throwing some tomato sauce, pre-grated cheese, spice, and some ham onto a mini pizza shell, bun, or tortilla and tossing it into a toaster oven/under the broiler hardly takes more than 5 minutes.
boyward
Homemade pickles
Fresh, garden-grown tomatoes
"Just Bunches!" whole grain oat cereal
Coffee
9 glasses of water

I'm on a diet.

Today was a good day at lunch, I had a hamburger, then some frys and an other hamburger (my sister is a wonderful human being by the way:) ), then milk, white milk, cause your teeth are worth it!

Like I said before, my cafeteria's food is kind-of good. When I go off to college, then I'll make my own food. smile.gif (And even though the cookies are half-baked, they're not too bad at all.)

Just ate leftover Domino's pizza.

Where are you planning on living at college? Off campus? Good luck with those ambitions in a dorm...

And, I must say, cooking for one definitely gets boring after a while. Though at the moment my biggest challenges are two-fold: 1) not having enough kitchen space for a solid set of staples and 2) the lack of a full kitchen (I have a hot plate, microwave, electric skillet, and toaster oven). There is a second hot plate, but I'm scared of blowing a fuse in this place... I haven't even dared to use the skillet and hot plate at the same time.

As a result, I tend towards Marmite sandwiches and various veggies. Though for lunch today it was a Marmite sandwich (toasted, butter, cheese, toasted until the cheese melts, and then the Marmite) and a peach.

Milk rice is good, though. Do Americans eat that much (if at all)? My parents both grew up with it, and my brother and I did too, but I don't think I've ever seen it here. Instead of cooking rice with water, you cook it with milk and water (doesn't burn as easily as if you use just milk), and you use more liquids than you would with regular rice (for half a cup of rice, I used 3/4 cup milk and 3/4 cup water). When it's done, you usually put cinnamon, sugar, and fruit over it. I made it last night and put cinnamon, honey, and a peach over it. Europeans, though, have a greater tendency towards having something sweet for dinner since it's not the main meal of the day... And it's usually not very sweet -- generally consisting of some form of fruit, bread (a starch), and dairy in various combinations.

That's a huge dish down here in Peru. I don't enjoy it much though.

I always said I could live off Cheerios. tongue.gif

Some microwaveable noodles and a bag of cheetos. Yeah, a poor college student's life is fun. sleep.gif

And if your choices during the lunch period are either eat the stupid food or go hungry, there isn't much of a choice. I can't go home and make my lunch, or trust me, I would.

EDIT: Oh, and I FINALLY had a home cooked meal. My mother made home-made spaghetti, with sauce made from the tomatoes in her garden!
megabuster44
Cereal for breakfast, sandwich and random goodies for lunch and cereal for dinner since i missed dinner...

Do they not have microwaves at school? That's harsh. If they do, the Uncle Ben's Bistro Express things are amazing. They're a staple of my kitchen... I use the plain ones in quick soups made with V8/canned chicken broth and black pepper (stunningly good), or use the flavored ones by themselves for a quick meal thing.

Is that V8 or canned chicken broth, or V8 and canned chicken broth? The slash is not a clear form of punctuation. tongue.gif

Oh, and a really fast way to do asparagus -- put them on a baking sheet or the toaster oven equivalent, drizzle olive oil over them and sprinkle with salt and pepper, and then bake 'em for 10 minutes or so at 400º. I'd say easy as pie, but it's waaay easier than baking a pie. tongue.gif That was the bulk of my dinner last night (with chicken) and it was quite good.

It's an either option, not a both.

And yes, asparagus done that way is excellent. Eggplant you can do the same way, just on the broil setting instead (I find it creates a better effect closer to the heat).

Another easy side-dish for chicken and the like is just a chopped cucumber and cherry or grape tomatoes with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. The olive oil/balsamic mix also works well to dredge bread in as a side to pasta. It's way better than garlic bread, and easier too.

Nope, no microwaves. It's a boarding school, therefore, where are they going to get the things to cook in the microwaves anyways?

Todays lunch was awful as well. Some weird kind of meat.
peewub
Eh, mystery meat or not it was better than what a hobo had today that is for sure. What I'm getting at is be thankful, I know that is weird and funny coming from a guy who eats any and basicly everything but realy I mean you never know when one day life takes a drastic turn for the worst and all of a sudden food isn't sanitary to eat any more or food just like disapears off the face of the earth... Hey It could happen.
